Marissa Tiamfook, NASM and USATF Certified

my experience...

As a certified personal trainer with the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and a USA Track and Field Association (USATF) Certified Running Coach, I have trained and coached everyone from novices to elite athletes, with clients as young as eight and as mature as 90. My clients have ranged from post-natal mothers, to the blind, to those recovering from a stroke and knee surgery. I coach cross country and track & field at Santa Monica College, competitive runners at the Marina del Rey Running Club, advanced marathoners through a Nike sponsored team, and first-time marathoners through Team in Training, a fundraising arm of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I take so much pride in every athlete that I train, each finish line feels like my own victory!

an athletic childhood...

I became an athlete as a young child. My father began running to lose weight, and he took me and my sister, along with our dogs, to the local track every Saturday. It got us out of the house and we got to spend time with Dad. Pretty soon we were beating him around the track, then most other kids in our age group races. I ran my first race at age seven, and my first marathon at 21. I now run and race regularly, but also cross-train with plyometrics, Pilates, yoga, boxing, weight training, and dance.

traveling the world...

I am also an outdoor adventure enthusiast and trek, climb, jump and explore every mountain and hidden trail I can find. I've traveled the world, worked in health care in Uganda, taught English in Asia, was a legal intern at the UN in Geneva, practiced law in Mexico, studied abroad in Jerusalem and Amsterdam, and backpacked through the Pacific Rim and Europe. I've climbed Mt. Fuji in Japan, the Yellow Mountains of China, and Ayers Rock in Australia, repelled through caves in New Zealand and Israel, hang-glided in Brazil, water skied in Russia, and of course, ran miles and miles everywhere.

I am also a lawyer...

I am also a lawyer admitted to the bar in New York, and practiced corporate law for three years. I traded my law office for the gym, and haven’t looked back!

Coach Marissa in action

Marissa's knowledge of training techniques, whether on the roads, track, or in the gym, are in-depth and spot-on. I've seen her work very successfully with athletes ranging from brand new to elites, and she's one of the most motivating and encouraging people I know. I would recommend her wholeheartedly to anyone looking to improve fitness at any level.
